Rabat- French Prime Minister Manuel Valls will make an official visit to Morocco on April 10th in an attempt by the French official to revive bilateral relations between the two countries following a year-long diplomatic row, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius announced on Monday.
In an interview with Moroccan daily Le Matin, the French chief diplomat said that a governmental seminar will take place soon in the French capital Paris in order to define a bilateral roadmap for the next two years.
“Our relationship had difficulties, [but] we overcame them.” Laurent Fabius told the French-speaking newspaper.
“Misunderstandings were removed. The solutions were found,” he added.
Fabius, who started on Monday a two-day working visit to Morocco, is expected to be received by King Mohammed VI. He will also meet the head of government Abdelilah Benkirane, his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddine Mezouar and other Moroccan officials.
The French Minister said that his visit aims at turning a new page in French-Moroccan relations. In addition, Laurent Fabius will discuss with Moroccan officials prospects for the launching of joint projects in the fields of transport, renewable energy and tourism.
Fabius also said that the two countries are committed for greater cooperation to address the challenges relating to fighting terrorism. He praised Morocco for the efforts it has been undertaking for years to promote a tolerant and open interpretation of Islam.
The visit of the French official comes following the signature of a new agreement between Morocco and France on judicial cooperation.
It also comes following a meeting held between King Mohammed VI and the French President last February 09 in Paris during which the two Heads of State gave a fresh impetus to bilateral relations between Morocco and France.
