Paris – Morocco’s leading role in promoting inter-faith dialogue and its contribution to championing the values of tolerance was highlighted on Monday in Paris during a conference on Franco-Moroccan values.
The conference, held on themed: “inter-faith dialogue at the service of civil harmony”, relayed the experiences of representatives of the three monotheistic religions who received recently Royal Wissams. These personalities include Khalil Merroun, rector of Evry mosque, Michel Serfaty, rabbi of Ris-Orangis and Michel Dubost, Evry bishop who were all born in Morocco.
The participants at the conference highlighted the centuries-old history of coexistence and tolerance that characterizes Morocco.
Speaking on this occasion, Spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry Romain Nadal welcomed the decoration of the three religious figures with Royal Wissams as a sign of “fraternity between Morocco and France and between the different faiths”, adding that this tribute shows vividly the importance of coexistence between religions.
“Morocco, through its constitution, shows to what extent the values of tolerance are at the heart of the history of the Moroccan people,” he said, underlining the recognition of cultural diversity in the Moroccan supreme law.
Nadal also welcomed the new momentum added in the Franco-Moroccan cooperation highlighted the “shared principles” between the two countries with regard to their vision about the international community.
