Brussels- Belgium might forge a partnership with Morocco in the field of Imam training, Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders said.
Belgium “might look for partnerships in the field of Imam training, a field where Morocco has extensive experience,” Reynders was quoted on Tuesday by the Belgian daily paper La Libre Belgique as saying.
The paper recalls that Morocco has offered training during the last two years to 500 Malian Imams and is currently supervising Imams from other African countries such as Guinea.
Mohammed VI Institute was founded with the goal of offering training to Imams and women preachers (Mourchidat) with the capacity of 500 seats, the paper adds.
La Libre Belgique also highlights the merits of the Malikite rite that is a salient feature of Moroccan Islam saying that “the Malikite school is distinguished by its flexibility as it acknowledges other sources of legislation such as the social contract along with sacred texts.”
