A Moroccan Gendarmerie officer has been detained after exposing corruption among his colleagues in a series of videos he posted on social media.
Disgusted and tired of it all, Osama Ghrabal, a Gendarmerie officer in the Khemisset area, decided to take matters into his hands.
Ghrabal recorded his corrupt colleagues in the act receiving bribes from motorists in order to overlook traffic law infringements.
Hoping for immediate action, he informed his superiors about the matter and provided video recordings as evidence.
Instead of receiving praise for his audacious act, the young officer has been held in custody at a local prison and quickly charged with “fraud” and “blackmail”.
According to news website Yabiladi, the Moroccan Center for Human Rights (CMDDH) is believed to have offered support for the young officer.
The association will be sending a team of lawyers to support the officer who is currently on hunger striker.
CMDDH have also called for an investigation into the “accusations” raised against him.
