Meknés – Under the high patronage of king Mohammed VI, the city of Meknés is hosting the 10th annual International Forum for Agriculture (SIAM), from April 28th to May 3rd in the Sahrij-Swani area. This year’s theme is “Research and Innovation.”
Meknes is devoting a whopping 172,000 square meters to this year’s forum, featuring more than 1,000 exhibitors from over 50 countries around the world, as well as all the regions of Morocco, to share their experiences with the visitors and display their products and achievements in the agriculture domain.
The forum organizing committee has devised a diverse program that includes seminars, workshops, meetings, livestock competitions, and live concerts, as well as comedy shows performed by famous Moroccan comedians such as Jawaj and Fatah, the winners of the Comedia Show competition by Al-oula.
The general commissioner of the forum, Jawad al-Shami, said that this year’s theme stems from the growing interest in environmental issues, and the need for the constant search for more sustainable farming methods that address climate change concerns.
He added that the exhibition, which is expected to attract one million visitors, evidence the high level of interest in the agricultural sector, and especially in Morocco as a model for Africa in the area of agriculture.
“This is the 4th time I have attended SIAM to represent my region, and I see that the forum is getting greater year after year,” said Khalid lmamouni, an exhibitor from Meknés-Tafilalt region. “I believe that this experience is very helpful for us as farmers, because it represents a good opportunity for networking and exchanging the needed expertise to improve agriculture in our country Morocco,” he explained.
