Rabat - Morocco's Groupe Banque Populaire won this year's African Bank of the Year at the ninth edition of the African Banker Awards held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire on May 27th.
Rabat – Morocco’s Groupe Banque Populaire won this year’s African Bank of the Year at the ninth edition of the African Banker Awards held in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on May 27th.
The African Banker Awards are organized by the African Banker magazine and Business in Africa Events as part of the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank.
Morocco had a strong showing with four awards. In addition to the Banque Populaire Groupe, Attijariwafa Bank won the Best Bank in North Africa Award, BMCE Bank won the Socially Responsible Bank of the Year Award while Fondation Attawfik won the Award for Financial Inclusion.
The ceremony was marked by the attendance of over 500 dignitaries, including African Ministers of Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors and CEOs of some of Africa’s leading Banks and financial institutions.
Ghana’s Albert Essien, Group CEO of Ecobank, won the award for African Banker of the Year, while Rwanda’s Hon. Claver Gatete won the Finance Minister of the Year Award.
