Oujda – A public speaking event was held on Friday, May 22 in Ahfir, just northwest of Oujda, designed to strengthen students’ language skills.
Annahda High School held a public speaking event two months in the making aimed at motivating students to share their ideas in front of an audience and to develop their oral language and body expression skills. The event was the idea of Mr. Zeriouh Mohamed, one of the school’s English language teachers, with assistance from the “Chabab Al Khair” association.
“After many sessions and workshops throughout the second semester in which students and I had agreed on selected topics and worked a lot on public speaking tips, the public speakers in the event were ready and showed a high level [of skill] while giving their talks to the audience,” said Zeriouh.
The event was divided into two phases: “Common Core Public Speakers” and “Second Year Back Public Speakers.” They were both distinguished by outstanding presentations performed by 17 students from Annahda High School. The topics chosen were varied in terms of themes and they were delivered sophisticatedly with the use of computer software.
“I had the chance to be among the students who participated in such [an] honorable and unforgettable event. It was a great opportunity for us to share our ideas and confront the fear of the stage and to prove that we all can do it. We all can speak English, and that goal had been successfully achieved,” said Rahmani Hajar, a participant in the public speaking conference.
Throughout the event, students demonstrated excellent public speaking skills and exhibited confidence and poise while facing the audience. The public speaking conference was interspersed with assorted artistic and musical intervals by local artists, such as “Aya Elguerrouj.”
“It was an amazing experience. I learned how to stand in front of the audience with confidence and without fear. My speech was about my dream job to become a doctor. This has also given me a positive energy to pursue my dreams,” said Karout Khaoula, a participant in the public speaking event.
