Rabat – The University Ibn Tofail was rocked by a scandal involving a university professor, who allegedly promised his students good marks in exchange for sexual favors.
The Moroccan teacher was suspended from office by the Ministry of Higher Education Scientific Research and Professional Training for sexually harassing his students.
Offended by his “heinous acts,” a student was able to catch the teacher on tape when he attempted to harass her and submitted the recording to the Ministry.With the company of her father, the student filed a law suit against the teacher for sexual harassments.
The Ministry of Higher Education suspended the teacher immediately after receiving the recording.
The Ministry opened an investigation to authenticate the recording before presenting the teacher before the disciplinary board.
Moroccan new Penal Code draft law toughens punishment against perpetrators of rape and sexual harassment.
The draft law also contains provisions against the authors of letters, photographs, audio, or video recordings deemed sexual or that have sexual purposes. The punishment is doubled if the offense is committed by a colleague in the workplace or persons responsible for ensuring public order or safety in public spaces.
