Rabat – A sub-Saharan migrant died after being seriously injured by a sharp object following a violent fight between Moroccans and Sub-Saharan immigrants in the Boukhalef neighborhood of Tangier.
The event that took place was incident to the operation by the Moroccan authorities to vacate apartments illegally occupied by sub-Saharan migrants.
The victim died in the hospital after being seriously injured in the courtyard of a building which was not being raided by Moroccan authorities.
The authorities began an investigation of the crime and are taking down statements of witnesses who were present at the scene.
Following complaints by Moroccan owners in the Boukhalef neighborhood of Tangier, several migrants received a 24-hour eviction notice from the Minister of the Interior.
It was as a result of the illegal immigrant’s failure to vacate the apartments that the authorities intervened. The purpose of the eviction was to allow owners to regain control of their apartments in accordance with the law.
In a similar tragic incident, a Senegalese illegal immigrant was beaten to death last year, in a bloody fight that broke out in the Boukhalef neighborhood of Tangier. The fight occurred between a group of sub-Saharan African immigrants and a group of Moroccans who were later joined in the fight by other Moroccans.
