Rabat – Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Morocco’s state-owned national carrier, has emerged in a more fit shape posting a profit of MAD183 million in 2014, a 9.3 per cent increase compared to 2013.
Despite the challenging economic and competitive context, the company’s overall traffic in Africa grew by 1.5 per cent in 2014 in comparison to 4.8 per cent in the previous year.
RAM also recorded a 17 per cent increase in African traffic at its Casablanca hub. In terms of overall traffic, RAM carried around 6.2 million passengers in 2014, 6 per cent increase compared to 2013.
The company sold 12 million seats on the national market in 2014, a 10 per cent more than in 2013. However, RAM experienced a slight decline in its market share in terms of selling seats in international markets, dropping from 39.5 per cent to 38 per cent.
In 2014, RAM launched 17 new lines, allowing it to record a turnover of nearly MAD14 billion, an increase of almost 4 per cent in comparison to 2013.
