Rabat- Two days after the trial of two women in Agadir over charges of “gross ardency” for wearing skirts, a crowd gathered around a young girl in a popular market in Safi for wearing shorts.
A video footage posted on YouTube on Wednesday shows a young girl being harassed by a group of passersby in a popular market in Safi over wearing shorts. The video went viral on social media.
The girl was walking through the market with her mother, when dozens of passersby gathered around her and started harassing her.
In the video, the attackers are heard shouting at her “Allahuma Inna Hada Mounkar,” (“O God! This is evil!”).
The girl and her mother reacted to the harsh criticism. “That is my daughter. It’s none of your business,” the mother is heard saying.
The man recording the video is heard saying, “Look at her! She is walking in the street with her mother while naked… look how many passersby protest against this act!”
This comes two days after two Moroccan women were acquitted of indecency charges after they were arrested in Agadir because their outfit was deemed “inappropriate.”

The case sparked a nationwide outcry. Hundreds of Moroccans took to the streets in three sit-ins held in Agadir, Casablanca and Rabat on July 6 in protest of the arrest, calling it an “attack on personal freedom.”
Two Facebook pages were created in support of the two young women. On both pages, many Moroccan women sharde pictures of themselves wearing minis-skirts with the hash tag “mettre une robe n’est pas un crime” (“wearing a skirt is not crime”).
