Rabat – After receiving an invitation from President Vladimir Putin, King Mohammed VI is due to make an official visit to Russia by the end of 2015, according to a report by Sputnik on Friday.
“The forthcoming visit of His Majesty the King has a historical and strategic importance”, said Sputnik quoting Morocco’s ambassador to Russia, Abdelkader Lachheb.
“It is designed to give a strong impetus to the development and quality of bilateral relations and to deepen the strategic partnership between Russia and Morocco,” added the Moroccan diplomat.
Preparations for the King’s visit, scheduled to take place by the end of 2015, are well underway. The Moroccan embassy’s officials in Russia have already visited Moscow to settle many agreements that are to be signed during the King’s visit.
Lachheb added that Morocco and Russia aspire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of energyand the fishing, military, logistics and agricultural industry.
It was in May 2015 that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin sent an invitation to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI to visit Russia.
Former visits of Mohammed VI to Russia were scheduledJune 11th, 2014 last year but were eventually postponed“to allow the sovereign to tackle the deepening strategic partnership between Morocco and Russia”, according to Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar.
The last time King Mohammed VI was on an official visit to Moscow was in 2002, when a bilateral declaration on a strategic partnership was signed.
