Rabat – Members of the Osama bin Laden family were reportedly killed when their private jet crashed near a British airport, the BBC reported.
Four people on board, the pilot and three passengers were killed in the crash in Hampshire, England, around 3 p.m. local time.
The plane crashed near the runway while attempting to make a landing, Blackbushe Airport officials said in a statement carried by the BBC.
The plane, an Embraer Phenom 300 believed to have belonged to an aviation company owned by the Ben Laden family, was arriving from Milan, Italy, when it crashed into a British Car Auctions site.
According to the eyewitnesses, the plane exploded in a “ball of flames” and said that there had been “several explosions.” All passengers and pilot were killed but no one on the ground was injured.
Officials from the Saudi Arabian embassy in the United Kingdom have confirmed the victims were members of the Bin Laden family, the former leader of Al Qaeda.
The Saudi Arabian embassy said it was working with the British authorities to “ensure the speedy handover of the bodies for funerals and burials in Saudi Arabia.”
