Rabat – Nearly half of British men believe that having only one sexual partner at a time is not natural, claiming that humans are naturally polygamous.
Of the 1,714 British adults polled, the YouGov survey published on July 31st, revealed that 46% of British men think that humans are polygamous by nature.
On the other hand, only 32% of British women believe human beings are ‘not’ monogamous by nature.
Despite the fact that polygamy is morally and legally wrong in the country, arguments for the liberalization of marriage laws are gaining momentum, following the legalization of same-sex marriage in the UK and in several countries around the world.
“Many are flexible with their understanding of how many people can engage in sexual relationships at a time,” the survey found.
Despite the different views on polygamy, both genders tend to agree that a polygamous relationship can be successful if people put in extra effort.
When asked whether they thought if “people can successfully manage monogamous relationships if they work at it hard enough”, 72% of men and 73% of women agreed it is possible.
Amid the growing debate on the legalization of same-sex marriages worldwide, people are concerned that human relationships will take new and “extreme” measures.
Surveys such as this one show proof that “polyamorous and polygamous relationships will be the next” topics the conservative family will have to confront.
While polygamy is allowed in roughly one in four countries in the world, particularly in the Islamic world, it is still currently illegal in Britain and a morally unaccepted practice in Western culture.
