Rabat- Meriem Khouy from Morocco has won the people’s choice award at Miss Arab US 2015, last week in Pennsylvania, beating 18 women eligible to win the award.
Rabat- Meriem Khouy from Morocco has won the people’s choice award at Miss Arab US 2015, last week in Pennsylvania, beating 18 women eligible to win the award.
Meriem Khouy received the award last Saturday during the crowning ceremony held at Mount Airy Casino Resort in Poconos, Pennsylvania, after gaining the most votes for the people’s choice.
The Annual Miss Arab Pageant is founded on the basis of advancing various causes for young ladies of Arab descent.
The Pageant is a charity event for the community, uniting Arabs and friends of Arabs in celebration of the Arab cultural heritage in the United States of America.
Speaking to Morocco World News, Meriem Khouy says she is very proud to be Arab and proud of her culture and background.
“The exceptional love that I received from my community inspires me to represent them well to others,” she added.
After winning this award, Miss Khouy says she is now keener on “educating others to have a better understanding of our Arab community and changing any wrong perceptions that they might have.”
Khouy points out that her goal is now to help her community’s needs.
“I will dedicate myself into helping those suffering kids in the Arab World and here in the USA. I may not be able to change the world, but I’m confident that I can change someone else’s world.”
Born in Tangier northern Morocco, Meriem who holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the International Institute of Tourism and Hotels Management (ISIT) in Tangier, moved to Los Angeles, California in 2011.
She says her parents have been the most influential figures in her life. “They always told me to constantly learn, educate, and inspire. They always advised me to be independent, courageous, and strong.”
