Rabat – 130,925 candidates are standing for municipal elections and 7,588 for regional elections, slated for September 4, the Interior Ministry said announced.
Some 130,925 candidates are vying for 31,503 communal seats, an average of more than 4 candidates for each seat, the Interior ministry pointed out in a statement.
These candidates are divided as follows:
Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM): 18,227 candidates (13.92 pc)
Istiqlal Party (PI): 17,214 candidates (13.15 pc)
Justice and Development Party (PJD): 16,310 candidates (12.46 pc)
National Rally of Independents (RNI): 14,617 candidates (11.16 pc)
Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP): 11,685 candidates (8.92 pc)
Popular Movement (MP): 10,767 candidates 8.22 pc.
Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS): 9,675 candidates (7.39 pc)
Constitutional Union (UC): 7,923 candidates (6.05 pc)
Alliance of the Parties of FGD: 3,970 candidates (3.03 pc)
Front of Democratic Forces (FFD): 3,426 candidates (2.62 pc)
The other political parties (19 parties) have validated 15,879 candidates.
Regarding regional councils, which represent 678 seats, the total number of candidates is estimated at 7,588, spread over 895 candidate lists.
The candidates are divided as follows:
PJD and PI: 678 candidates (100 pc).
PAM: 673 candidates (99.26 pc).
RNI: 668 candidates (98.53 pc).
PPS: 638 candidates (94.10 pc).
USFP: 637 candidates (93.95 pc)
MP: 577 candidates (85.10 pc)
CPU: 522 candidates (76.99 pc)
FFD: 357 nominations (52.65 pc)
Alliance of the Parties of FGD: 348 candidates (51.33 pc)
Regarding the other political parties (19 parties), the candidates validated by these parties represent 23.58 percent of the total number of registered candidates.
The number of candidates remains provisional until receipt of discharges by individual candidates or heads of lists that have filed their candidacies during the last stage of the deadline devoted to submission of candidacies in accordance with the law in force.
The Interior Minister informed that the election campaign started in the first hours of Saturday, August 22, 2015, and will continue until midnight of the day before polling day, Thursday September 3, 2015.
