Rabat – Secretary General of the Istiqlal party Hamid Chabat promised that if the party fails to top the municipal and regional elections vote, he will step down.
During a previous TV appearance, Fez city mayor Chabat promised that he would resign if the Istiqlal party fails in his bid to win the most votes in yesterday’s elections.
However, and according to the latest figures from the Interior Ministry, the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) has secured the largest number of seats, winning 6655, while Hamid Chabat’s Istiqlal party has won 5106 seats in second place, closely followed by the ruling party of Justice and Development (PJD) (5021 seats), in third place.
Hamid Chabat, who has been the mayor of Fez since 2003, expressed his anger following the PJD’s victory in many major cities, including Fez, suggesting the results may have been “rigged”.
So, Will Hamid Chabat show good sportsmanship and admits defeat? We will find out later.
