Miami – Porto’s goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, has stood up in support of Spanish player Victor Valdés, after Manchester United’s Coach, Louis Van Gaal, had him demoted to “fourth-choice goalkeeper”.
Previous reports confirmed Valdés and Van Gaal had their disagreements and the coach pulled him from a series of games since last July claiming “Valdés is not selected because he doesn’t follow my philosophy”.
In a report by El Mundo Deportivo, Casillas publicly defends the Spanish goalkeeper saying he understands the bad moments he is going through, and hopes for a prompt resolution expressing, “[Valdés] deserves a solution due to the quality of player he is”.
“I want to show him all my support and plenty of encouragement”, said the Captain.
Valdés is trying to keep his head up as he recently tweeted addressing his fans, “No matter what happens. The only way I know is to work hard every day. Thank you for all your support!”
Casillas is still in disbelief of the unfortunate circumstances Valdés is going through and declares, “If someone had said a year and a half ago this would be happening, obviously nobody wished for it. This demonstrates football can sometimes be unrewarding”.
He is convinced Valdés will overcome this obstacle since “he was a privileged mind and I hope he succeeds”.
Casillas as a goalkeeper understands the frustration Valdés must be going through and would love for him to regain his joy and play again, he said “we will all enjoy it”.
