Rabat – Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has reportedly left the club.
The move comes six weeks after criticism from club’s manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese criticized Carneiro after she rushed to the aid of Belgian international Eden Hazard in the 2-2 draw against Swansea at Stamford Bridge on August 8.
According to British media reports, Carneiro was asked to return to work last Friday, but she has decided not to show and is now considering legal action against the London-based club.
Mourinho’s reaction at the time is the subject of an FA inquiry. He is being accused of using abusive or sexist language towards Carneiro.
A member of the public has alleged that the former Real Madrid manager shouted ‘filha da puta’ towards the Gibraltar-born doctor, something that means daughter of a whore.
Heather Rabbatts, chair of the FA’s Inclusion Advisory Board and FA’s only female board member, expressed her “sadness and anger” at the news of Carneiro’s departure.
“Her departure raises a serious question on how players are safeguarded if their medical support is compromised,” said Rabbatts.
“I hope that Eva’s own situation can be resolved quickly and positively and that she will be able to continue to work in a senior position within the game.”
