The defender suffered a knee injury in the Bayern Munich training earlier this month that could keep him out of actions for four weeks.
According to media reports, the Morocco national team captain sent a medical certificate to the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF) outlining the recovery progress of his injury.
It is now confirmed that the former AS Roma man will miss friendlies against Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea as part of the Moroccan team’s preparations for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Morocco national team head coach Badou Ezzaki has called up a 33-man preliminary squad for the two matches expected to be played in Agadir.
Benatia had already missed Morocco national team’s 3-0 victory against Sao Tome in the Afcon 2017 qualifiers.
