Rabat – Juan Mata, Manchester United’s midfielder, has praised his new teammate, Anthony Martial, saying that his style of play benefits the whole squad.
“I think everyone is impressed. We knew that he was a very good player, but he’s been great” the Spanish international told manutd.com.
Mata went on to add that the French youngster is helping Manchester United with his personality and his way of playing.
“He’s given us a lot of things, not just the goals – his way of playing is helping the team a lot.
“He’s a good guy and settling in very quickly which is very good for everyone.”
Mata’s statement come to quite the harsh criticism that was leveled against the 19-year old French international since he was transferred from Monaco to Old Trafford for a whopping 50 million euros plus 30 million euros as bonus.
Many Premier League observers called the amount of his transfer “hallucinating” for an untested 19-year old player who had yet to prove his talent.
Van Gaal, Manchester United’s coach, was among the voices that criticized the amount of his transfer when he said: “the amount of the transfer is ridiculous and symbolic of the crazy world in which we live.”
But the Dutch manager has quickly changed his position after the French youngster delivered an outstanding performance for his team as he scored 3 goals in two Premier League appearances.
Van Gaal was quoted by British media as saying that Martial will “get even better” when he settles down and moves to his house.
“He is still living in a hotel with his wife and kid so he is in the first phase of his adaptation”, said Van Gaal.
“He is an open guy, he is listening, watching and he is focusing on the matches so that I can see so for a manager he is a very coachable player and that is also why I like him and I bought him” he added.
