Rabat – Manchester United’s manager Louis Van Gaal has declared he is willing to release Spanish goalkeeper Víctor Valdés who has been on second team due to disagreements with the “Red Devil’s philosophy,” according to El Mundo Deportivo.
However, several British media outlets have said that Man United could in fact let Valdés go in a “rescission” of his contract, as long as he does not enlist with a Premier League Club.
In a press conference this week presented by Beanyman Sports, when asked if he is willing to sell Valdés, Van Gaal responded with a solid: “Yes!” He went on to add, “It’s a pity because we have given him opportunity to rehabilitate, and also then we gave him a contract.”
The Red Devil’s boss has a particular ‘philosophy’ that the Spanish goalkeeper did not to follow: “For example, he refused last year to play in the second team so that’s also one aspect of our philosophy. But when you are not willing to follow the principles of the philosophy, there’s only one way, and that is out,” Van Gaal said.
The Spanish international has been demoted to second-choice goalkeeper by the British club, a move that has put him in “surplus category”, kept him out of the pre-season tour in the USA, and out of the Champions League list.
“He is not selected because he don’t follow my, our philosophy and there’s no place for not one player,” said Van Gaal explaining his reasons to exclude Valdés.
According to the same source, Manchester United’s boss is well aware that English clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have expressed their desire to sign Valdés. They have even placed the Spanish international in their list of alternate goalies to fill the urgent need both teams have for improving their weakened goalkeeper options.
However, the Dutchman does not want his players to end up in one of the Red Devil’s rivals.
Van Gaal said he would allow the Spanish goalkeeper to play in an upcoming match to better his chances of being transferred to another club.
“I want to help him and that he can show his qualities for another club. I’m always a very social human being”, he concluded.
