Miami – AS Monaco’s vice president, Vadim Vasilyev, revealed that a “mystery” football club offered a higher bid to purchase Anthony Martial, but the French player chose to go with the Red Devils.
According to Manchester Evening News, the British club was not the only one to present a “hallucinating offer” to sign the former Monaco star. Another club whose name was undisclosed is said to have offered even more money for Martial.
“I will not say how much, but the fixed price, without variables, it was even better,” said Vasilyev whose club negotiated the French player’s transfer.
Manchester United paid the EUR 80 million, inclusive of bonus, for Anthony Martial, who has proven to be the Red Devils new sensation.
Monaco’s Vasilyev said that they let the French youngster go because it was his “dream” to be a Red Devil.
“But the boy wanted to go to Manchester, it was his dream. And we let him go with the bonus of €30 million,” he explained.
Following the impressive goal-scoring debut Martial has shown at this season’s Premier League, it is evident the French star wants to prove his worth. He has declared he will do whatever it takes to succeed with his new home team.
Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal, showed his satisfaction for acquiring Martial, adding that the 19-year-old made the best choice by opting for Old Trafford.
“…For a manager he is a very coachable player and that is also why I like him and I bought him,” stated the Dutch coach.
Man United is the current leader of the Premier League and their No. 9 man is earning the respect and praise of his peers and the media. Martial’s transfer amount earned him the title of “most expensive teenager in football history”.
