New York – Pep Guardiola, Bayern Munich manager, has not accepted any “verbal agreement” to become head coach of Manchester City as of next season, according to sports website Goal.
On Thursday, several media outlets reported that the German club manager had met with Man City’s director, Txiki Begiristain to discuss a deal to coach the ‘Sky Blues’.
However, Goal points out that Guardiola will remain at Munich and focus on winning his third-consecutive Bundesliga title with the German team.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern Munich chairman declared that the former Barcelona boss is a good coach and he is confident he will stay at Allianz.
“One thing is clear: we have a good team, and a good team needs a good coach,” ‘King Kalle’ said to DPA.
“We had Jupp Heynckes and now we have Pep Guardiola. I’m an optimist and I believe he will stay beyond June 30, 2016,” when his current contract is set to expire, the German chairman said.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s sports director have maintained a friendly and trusting relationship for years. Both men worked together at Barcelona, winning 14 titles with the Spanish club.
Txiki has sought the Bayern manager in the past to bring him to Manchester City. However, the ‘Citizens’ current coach Manuel Pellegrini recently renewed his contract with the British club until 2017.
