New York – Argentina national team’s forward Sergio Agüero will be away for a month due to a tear in his left hamstring, an injury he suffered on the pitch on Thursday.
The Manchester City star hurt himself during the first half of the Argentina vs Ecuador match in Buenos Aires on Thursday, where the ‘Albiceleste’ was defeated (0-2).
A video playback by Marca TV, shows the Argentine star running while trying to beat an Ecuador player to the ball, when he tore his hamstring. Agüero immediately felt the pain, stopped moving and started rubbing his leg. The pain overcame him and he was forced to sit on the ground where he was later assisted.
The 27-year-old will undergo his one-month recovery in England. The injury might cause him to miss the Argentina vs Brazil match on November 12 in Buenos Aires.
The ‘Sky Blues’ striker was wearing Argentine superstar Lionel Messi’s No. 10 jersey during Friday match. Earlier this week, Agüero said that Messi, who is also away due to injury, sent him a message telling him to wear it in his absence from the South American World Cup qualifiers.
This incident comes at an unfortunate moment for the Man City forward who was quoted as saying: “This is the best moment of my sports career….Since a year and a half ago, I’ve been constant.”
The ‘Citizens’ player was instrumental in the British club absolute win (6-1) against Newcastle last weekend, as he scored 5 out of the 6 goals that consolidated Manchester City its leading standing at the Premier Leauge.
Argentina’s national team can add Agüero to its long list of injured players which include, Biglia, Messi, Marcos Rojo, Ever Banega, Fernando Gago and Roberto Pereyra.
