Rabat – Police in Fez have arrested more than two thousand criminals between September 15 and October 5th.
Media24 quoted sources from local authorities in Fez stating that operations conducted by police services in Fez between September 15 and October 5 led to the arrest of over 2,645 criminals.
1,871 of the suspects have been brought to justice in Fez, the same source added. 1,293 of these arrests account for suspects caught red-handed for different offences and crimes, and the other 635 account for individuals with arrest warrants issued nationally for serious crimes and offenses, such as theft, assault, battery, and drug trafficking.
The same source pointed out that these intense, ongoing operations are part of the General Direction of National Security’s (DGSN) strategy to ensure citizens’ security, protect their properties and preserve public order via the reinforcement of preventive measures to counter crime.
According to a report issued last July by the Ministry of Interior,Fez, the second largest city of Morocco, has also the second largest number of crimes in Morocco, after Casablanca.
The report also noted that the number of crimes and offenses recorded during the first seven months of the current year amounted to about 425 thousand cases, at the national level.
43% of the total cases registered at the national level constituted offenses against people and their property. Of the 43%, 183,000 cases were crimes and offenses that affected public security.
