Rabat – Moroccan boxer Mohammed Rabii was overtaken by emotion and let tears of joy flow, after receiving Morocco’s first ever golden medal in AIBA World Champion.
The highlight of his landmark final today in Doha was when the Moroccan anthem was being played during the medal-handing ceremony. This is the first time in the competition’s history that a Moroccan wins a gold medal.
Mohammed Rabii secured the golden medal for Morocco against Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Yeleussinov, the former world’s champion in 2013 and 2014. This is the first time the Kazakh champion lost a competition since 2013.
Moroccans expressed their joy massively on social media as soon as Rabii was declared champion.
