Rabat – Two Spanish policemen were arrested for having a sexual relations with a minor in exchange for money and gifts.
The two police officers are accused of sexually abusing a Moroccan minor in the city of Melilla, according to Spain’s El País news website.
Following an interrogation, the officials were released with charges of suspected sexual assault, and the case has been sent to juvenile court.
The scandal was made public when local police in Melilla- a Spanish enclave in Moroccan territory- stopped a 16-year-old minor with a cellular phone valued at €600, which the agents believed had been stolen, the same source reported.
However, the Moroccan teenager allegedly confessed to the police that two National Police officers had given him the mobile phone in exchange for “sexual favors”.
The young victim, according to the same source, told the police the location of the offenders’ residences, from which he had allegedly stolen the keys, the suspects said during their interrogation.
Both officers are from the city of Melilla and one of them has been linked to similar cases of sexual abuse in previous jobs, according to Spain’s website Luzdemelilla.es.
The two agents have been suspended from their duties until the investigation is resolved, the press office of the National Police said without further declarations.
