Rabat – Argentine football legend Diego Maradona will come back to Morocco soon and visit the Agadir region after accepting an invitation from the city’s local authorities.
Following his trip to Marrakech and Laâyoune to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Morocco’s Green March, the football superstar will return to Morocco and meet his enthusiastic Moroccan fans in Agadir, according to Le360 news website.
Maradona was invited to Agadir by Zineb El Adaoui, the Wali (governor) of the region. The Moroccan official contacted the star’s agent and personal friend, Karim Blaq, by phone to formally extend the invitation.
Blaq said that ‘El Pibe de Oro’ has accepted El Adaoui’s invitation saying that it “will bring him great pleasure” to visit Agadir.
The Argentine player departed Marrakech on Sunday after his four-day visit to Morocco, in which he participated in a ‘gala match’ alongside other international football legends in Laâyoune on Friday. The gala was attended by over 25,000 Moroccan fans.
Video footage and pictures of Maradona enjoying his time in Marrakech and Laâyoune were widely shared on social media over the weekend.
No date has been announced for the Argentine’s return to Morocco. But it seems that the football legend was delighted by Moroccan’s well-known hospitality.
