Rabat – If the so-called Islamic State plan attacks in New York, they will have to go through the mafia first, says the notorious boss’ son.
In the wake of heightened fears after the Paris November 13 attacks, Giovanni Gambino has vowed to protect the people of New York claiming the mafia take action in times of need where the FBI and Homeland Security cannot.
Reuters reports Gambino told NBC News that security agents “often act too late, or fail to see a complete picture of what’s happening due to a lack of ‘human intelligence’.”
In true ‘Godfather-esque’ style, Gambino who dabbled in screenwriting, claimed the Mafia and its allies, are more connected in neighbourhoods.
“The world is dangerous today, but people living in New York neighbourhoods with Sicilian connections should feel safe,” he said.
According to Gambino, Sicily (where the mafia is said to originate) has been spared from terrorist attacks because ISIS fear the organised crime syndicate.
“We make sure our friends and families are protected from extremists and terrorists, especially the brutal, psychopathic organisation that calls itself the Islamic State.”
“The mafia has a bad reputation, but much of that’s undeserved,” said Gambino, who moved to Brooklyn in 1988. “As with everything in life, there are good, bad and ugly parts – the rise of global terrorism gives the Mafia a chance to show its good side.”
