Rabat – Morocco, customers are still not accustomed to Black Friday but it’s one of the biggest shopping days in the US.
This Friday, November 27, will see a new e-commerce concept brought to Morocco. Isyet will be adopted in the Moroccan market, in Jumia and Kaymu Africa’s and Morocco’s largest online shopping malls in kingdom.
No less than one million visitors are expected by Kaymu and Jumia. Online platforms are awaiting to register about 10,000 orders in one day.
“Black Friday is now a well-known sales day both in the U.S. and Europe. It is however new to the African market, Kaymu and Jumia put great focus on introducing this new sales opportunity to African consumers,” Bastien Moreau, MD of Jumia Morocco, told Morocco World News.
Sevan Marian, Kaymu Morocco’s country manager said: “Africa’s consumption power rises quickly. Bringing Black Friday to the African market is a long-term project which we believe has great potential. This year, Kaymu and Jumia expect the numbers to increase by tapping into a global shopping phenomenon we are creating a more powerful event than if we made up a new concept from scratch.”
Last year’s Black Friday sales showed a great interest in digital products such as flat screen TVs, digital cameras and ventilation systems.
This year, Jumia and Kaymu plan for their Black Friday sale to have a lot more than just large discounts on electronics. Electronics and fashion products take the lead when it comes to sales, but Jumiaand Kaymu will offer great deals on cosmetics, home appliances and even children’s toys to its African customers.
Originally born in the US in the 60’s, Black Friday comes a day after thanksgiving as a ‘shopping celebration’. The event is generally propagated by large commercial retailers and is generally seen the kickoff to Christmas shopping frenzy.
