New York – Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, the two suspects who were killed by police in the aftermath of the San Bernardino mass shootings, were the confirmed perpetrators of the attack.
Less than 24 hours after the mass shooting that claimed the lives of 14 people and injured 17 others at a holiday party held at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, local police chief Jarrod Burguan has confirmed the identity of the two shooters.
Syed Farook, 28, born in the U.S. and his wife of two years, Tashfeen Malik, 27, from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, stormed through the health clinic for people with special needs, killing 14 innocent victims and injuring 17 who remain at the hospital in critical condition.
According to Hussam Ayloush of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Farook and Malik had a 6-month-old daughter, whom they dropped off at Farook’s mother on Wednesday morning.
Syed Farook, an environmental specialist had worked for the San Bernardino County health department for 5 years and was at the holiday party the morning of the attack.
He left the party allegedly angry and later returned with his wife Malik onboard the dark SUV, dressed in tactical gear and ski masks heavily armed with .223-caliber assault-style rifles, semiautomatic handguns and explosives.
According to law enforcement officials, the weapons used by the killers were legally purchased.
Although police has not yet identified a “motive” for the attack, they have not confirmed nor denied the possibility of terrorism.
Police Chief Burguan believes the assault was done with premeditation, “I don’t think they just ran home, put on these type of tactical clothes, grabbed guns and came back on a spur-of-the-moment thing”, he said.
Meanwhile, according to KPCC news, authorities contacted Farook’s family. His brother in law Farhan Khan expressed his shock over the attack.
“I just cannot express how sad I am for what happened today,” he said in a press conference.
Later on Wednesday evening, ISIS supporters took on to social media to praise the alleged “three lions” responsible for the San Bernardino attacks.
However, California authorities have not linked the attack to ISIS nor have they mentioned the identity or whereabouts of the third shooter, although eyewitnesses said they saw three attackers in tactical gear at the hospital.
