Rabat – ‘Gladiator’ star Russell Crowe is reportedly coming back to Morocco next year in order to shoot scenes in the historical survival drama “Sand and Blood.”
A report by Variety said Saul Dibb’s Sand of Blood will be the biggest shoot in Morocco next year.
The production is based on the true story of an American ship that was wrecked on the Saharan coast of West Africa in the early 19th century.
Russell Crowe will play the captain who negotiated for the safety of his men when they were captured by tribesmen.
‘Sand and Blood’ will be the second movie that Russell Crowe films in Morocco, after his epic “Gladiator” which was shot in 2000 in Ouarzazate, southern Morocco.
Highly acclaimed by Hollywood producers, Morocco has become one of the most popular film destinations and home to many successful international films.
In 2014, Morocco hosted large-scale Hollywood shoots like Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (pictured) and Tom Hanks’ upcoming drama A Hologram for the King.
In 2015, several international TV and film productions were shot in Morocco, including scenes for “Spectre,” the last film in the James Bond saga and the global hit “Game of Thrones.
