Rabat – Anonymous have declared a cyber war against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, over his anti-Muslim hate speech.
Anonymous launched their #OpTrump campaign on Thursday night. Their initial attack was a distributed-denial-of-service attack (DDoS), which crashes sites by overloading it with traffic, on trumptowerny.com.
A report by the International Business Times said the site was down for a few hours. One Twitter user posted a picture of the hack, claiming the site was “almost down”.

However, trumptowerny.com seems to just be the first in a series of attempts targeted at Trump. The group posted a video online, warning Trump of the repercussions of his anti-Muslim rhetoric.
In the video, a masked member of the group is seen saying: “”Donald Trump, it has come to our attention that you want to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. This policy is going to have a huge impact.”
“This is what ISIS wants. The more Muslims feel sad the more Isis feels they can recruit them,” the masked member added.
“The more the United States appears to be targeting Muslims, not just radical Muslims you can be sure Isis will be putting that on their social media campaign,” he concluded.
Trump has been under fire since he made a controversial statement on Monday, calling for barring all Muslims from entering the United States.
He has also called for surveillance against mosques and said he was open to establishing a database for all Muslims living in the US.
Democrat presidential hopeful, Hillary Clinton described Trump’s statement as an “ugly, distasteful and dangerous idea.”
