Rabat – Morocco arrested on Monday 11 alleged terrorists who were preparing to carry out terrorist attacks on Moroccan soil on New Year ’s Eve.
The members of alleged terrorist cell were arrested in the region of Fez, according to Assabah in its Tuesday issue. The operation was carried after “perfect coordination between the different security departments,” according to the same source.
The alleged criminals intended to carry out terrorist in Morocco during the festivities marking New Year. The arrest comes after a series of operations conducted by Moroccan security services to keep Morocco immune from terrorism.
Last Friday, the Central Bureau of Judiciary Investigations, an arm of the Department of territory surveillance, arrested a four-people international drug trafficking gang believed to have link with the so-called Islamic State.
During a press conference last month, Moroccan Minister of communication and government spokesperson, Mustapha El Khalfi, said that Morocco had dismantled 140 cells and arrested over 2,200 suspected terrorists between 2002 and 2015.
