Rabat – A photo of a child wearing a blue and white striped plastic grocery bag tied at his shoulders with “Messi 10″ hand written on the back has captivated thousands online and sparked an international hunt for the child in the photo.
The photo of the buzzed-hair little boy with his plastic shirt went viral on social media networks. Some social media users claim that Messi may be sending something to the kid soon, however, this has not been publicly confirmed by the Argentinian striker himself.

Many social media users reported that the hunt is on and that Messi himself is trying to contact his “biggest fan” to give him a proper shirt.
A Messi fan account tweeted, “We got DM from [Lionel Messi]’s team
We got DM from Leo’s team. They want to know who this kid is so that Leo can arrange something for him. RT & spread https://t.co/MylJyDOpsu

It is unclear when and where the original photo was taken, but it is in a rural area, apparently. Some social media posts claim that the photo was taken in Iraq.
“Little boy in war-torn Iraq wears a Lionel Messi football shirt made from a plastic bag,” read a comment.
According to the BBC, the first time that the photo of the little boy appeared online traced back to a Twitter user named @illMindOfRobin.
The same source said that @illMindOfRobin posted the picture on January 13th, with a statement that reads “Messi in Kurdistan” and “Messi in Duhok, Iraq” two days before it was shared widely elsewhere.
