Thanks to its clear and strong position against religious extremism, Morocco stands as a champion of moderate Islam and has acquired unrivalled competence in supervising the religious sphere, the French expert went on in an interview published on Sunday at the “Theatrum Belli” website which focuses on defense and security issues, noting that the kingdom is on the front line in the fight against extremist propaganda.
Saint-Prot pointed out that the supervision of the religious field and action conducted under the authority of HM the King, Commander of the Faithful, places Morocco at the forefront in the struggle against extremist deviance, adding that the kingdom plays a key role through its influence on major brotherhoods (Tijaniya, Qadiriya Boutchichiya, ..).
“In addition to that, the Sovereign has intensified imams’ training program in several countries to help fight the spread of extremism,” he recalled, citing, in this regard, the creation of Mohammed VI Institute for the training of imams and Mohammed VI Foundation for African Ulema (religious scholars), with the aim of to unifying and coordinating Muslim ulema efforts in Morocco and in over thirty African countries to consolidate and promote Islamic moderate values”.
The French pundit also stressed that Morocco plays an important role in the stability of the Sahel-Saharan region, noting that the Kingdom provides technical assistance, including consultants and experts, to African countries.
“Moreover, its highly effective security services cooperate closely with their European counterparts, including France and Spain,” he said, recalling their valuable contribution in the dismantling of terrorist networks in France, Belgium and Spain.
