Taroudant – Dozens of citizens organized a sit-in on the morning of Wednesday, April 14 in front of the court of Ain Sbaa in Casablanca in solidarity with Khawla, a young community activist accused of assaulting the actress Dounia Boutazout.
The protesters gathered in front of the court with Moroccan placards in their hands demanding the release of the young girl, who they said was innocent.
A large banner raised by the protesters, most of whom were women, read “Associations are in support of the young community activist Khawla Nkhili.” Other signs held by protestors demanded a fair trial for the activist.
The Moroccan actress posted photos of herself in the hospital claiming that she was victim of an assault by a woman.
According to some witnesses, the young activist assaulted the Moroccan actress while she was at a government office because Boutazout allegedly did not respect the queue in place.
Other witnesses said that the Moroccan actress started the physical altercation.
Omar Ghofran, Boutazout’s lawyer, said in a statement, that his client was “admitted to the hospital in critical condition, and that she received surgery on Tuesday after suffering a double fracture of her nose.”
The actress famous for her role on the Moroccan show “L’Couple” is reportedly being given medical care at the Sheikh Khalifa ibn Zaid hospital in Casablanca.
The case of the alleged altercation between Boutazout and Khawla created a social media buzz.
