Geneva – Morocco supported on Tuesday in Geneva a Russian proposal to negotiate an international convention on curbing chemical and biological terrorism acts.
Speaking at the Disarmament Conference, Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Mohamed Aujjar said that this Russian proposal is a collective response to counter threats and fight chemical and biological terrorism.
The Kingdom shares concerns regarding the risk of acquiring chemical and biological weapons by terrorist groups that could endanger everyone, said the diplomate, noting that this poses a real threat and should be taken into consideration by the international community.
The ambassador recalled that Morocco is very attached to nuclear disarmament and deems it necessary to discuss any proposal likely to boost the conference’s work.
“We encourage initiatives that could establish a climate of trust and lead substantive talks on all disarmament issues on the conference’s agenda,” he said.
