Rabat – A photo of a man believed to be mentally ill wearing Moroccan police uniform went viral on social media.
After the photo was shared widely on the internet, Moroccan authorities launched an investigation to arrest the man and find out how he obtained the uniform.
The man, whose name has not been released, was arrested in Kenitra, near Rabat, after he was seen wearing the police uniform.
According to Rue20, the uniform belongs to the Royal Institute of Police in Kenitra. Police officers were ordered to burn the old uniform but instead disposed of it in the trash. The man shown in the photograph is thought to have found the uniform in the garbage.
This incident comes only a few days after Morocco’s Directorate of National Security (DGSN) announced during a celebration of the 60th anniversary of its founding that police officers are currently being issued updated uniforms to be worn by the end of the year.
Following his appointment as director of the DGSN last May, Abdellatif Hammouchi unveiled his plan to establish a strategic body for the maintenance of peace and security in the country, introducing many reforms with the stated aim of enhancing the performance of the Moroccan police.
