Rabat – A preacher has called on Muslims in Europe to start the holy month of Ramadan on the same day as Morocco.
Starting from this Hijri year, Al-Balagh Association for Cultural and Social Work in the city of Leiden, Netherlands, has decided to follow Morocco’s declaration of proven sighting for the months of Ramadan and Chawwal issued by the moon sighting committees of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
This decision was justified on the basis that Morocco has the “most precise and accurate” Islamic calendar.
In a statement signed by the Libyan writer and preacher, Jalal Ali Jehani, on behalf of the steering committee, the association called on all imams and preachers in The Netherlands and Belgium to follow the right path in this respect so as to avoid the annual chaos, contradictions and errors coming from inaccurate astronomical calculations of some Middle Eastern countries.
The association also called on the Islamic institutions in the Netherlands, Belgium and all of Europe to sign the document acknowledging Morocco’s accuracy in crescent observation. “We are not seeking any financial or political achievement out of this, our sole objective is to be right and do away from error,” said Jalal Ali Jehani in the statement as quoted by Hespress.
The Libyan preacher said that there are many reasons that make Morocco the most accurate country in moon sighting. The first of these reasons, according to him, is that Morocco has “very competent and specialized” moon sighting committees (moon sighting observatories) spread out in more than 200 places across the country.
Because of the careful provisions that Morocco implements in observing the crescent, error during the last 25 years did not exceed one percent. “This is a very important and accurate testimony from specialists in astronomical science and Sharia Law,” says Jalal Ali.
