Rabat – Morocco and Belgium signed, recently in Rabat, a new cooperation program worth 16.85 million euros for 2016-2020.
The program touches on four broad lines, namely the promotion and protection of women’s and children’s rights, the management of immigration, the support for women and youth entrepreneurship and the building of capacities for executives in the Moroccan civil service, said on Monday a statement by the Belgian embassy in Morocco.
The new program will complete the current one (totaling 40 million euros) which invests in sustainable and solidarity-based agriculture (date palms, saffron and almond trees), liquid purification, water resources management and environment upgrading for rural schools, said the statement.
Morocco and Belgium are partners for over 50 years in important fields as vocational training, development of agricultural sectors and water and liquid purification, it noted. Morocco, which used to be a developing country, is among intermediary income countries for which Belgium is adopting a different strategy based on human rights as a lever for development, it added.
