Rabat – Morocco is a haven of peace, tolerance and exceptional interfaith coexistence in a world awash with hatred and intolerance, said, on Monday in Rabat, Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane.
Speaking at the 12th Morocco-EU Meeting, organized by the Ribat Al Fath Association for Sustainable Development and the German Foundation Konrad Adenauer under the theme “Peaceful coexistence: a shared responsibility”, Benkirane underlined that Morocco has always advocated a moderate and open discourse and has defended, firmly and with responsibility, the values of peace, security, tolerance and coexistence.
All foreign communities and religious minorities living in Morocco, with no exception, enjoy peace and security as other Moroccan citizens and practice their faith freely, said the head of government, adding that the Kingdom has irreversibly opted for religious tolerance and coexistence for the past 12 centuries.
This is why Morocco stands out among other countries, he said, underscoring that the north African country succeeded in preserving its Islamic identity while promoting a moderate and tolerant version of Islam.
On the Morocco-EU ties, Benkirane said that European countries are urged to back up the Moroccan model, which is based on sustainable development, stability, progress, solidarity and freedom, noting that Morocco has become a source of inspiration for other countries across the world.
