Rabat – A video of Moroccan national team players smoking a hookah in a hotel room in Marrakech has caused a stir on social media.
Many commenters denounced the players’ irresponsibility and disregard for the colors they represent. The video, which came as an unexpected surprise, also created a stir within the technical staff of the team and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
According to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), the FRMF has called for an emergent joint meeting with the technical staff of the Atlas Lions to discuss the matter. The same source also said that some ‘heads’ are expected to roll following what many observers called ‘the scandal’ of Moroccan players.
Hervé Renard, the national coach, was outraged by this act of indiscipline, which, according to him, should lead to the outright dismissal of offenders.
The video shows several players smoking a hookah, an act that is banned for players, however enticing a puff or two may be.
The involved players and some of their immediate supervisors are now awaiting the decision that will be made at the FRMF meeting.
