Rabat – During a broadcast of “The 700 Club” on Tuesday, controversial American televangelist Pat Robertson claimed that conservatives should stay away from the battle between Islam and gay rights.
This statement comes days after the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando.
“The left is having a dilemma of major proportions and I think for those of us who disagree with some of their policies, the best thing to do is to sit on the sidelines and let them kill themselves,” said Robertson.
Mr. Robertson has also criticized President Obama and Hillary Clinton for refusing to attribute the massacre to “radical Islam.” He voiced his support for Donald Trump, saying, “Donald Trump is riding high because he said we should screen these people, and he’s absolutely right.”
In response to Robertson’s statements, many people expressed their anger against the Christian leader’s hate speech. The most circulated reaction was that of the People For the American Way President.
“For anyone to abide, or even welcome, the slaughter of LGBT people is sickening. Robertson’s words are un-American and un-Christian—and they shed a bright light on the hatred and bigotry of the Religious Right that continues to fuel anti-gay violence,” said Michael Keegan.
