Casablanca – King Mohammed VI launched, on Tuesday in the Oukacha Prison in Casablanca, the Ramadan 2016 micro-projects and self-employment program for former inmates, and chaired the signing ceremony of three agreements on the professional integration of former prisoners.
Initiated by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees at a total cost of over 5.2 million dirhams, this program will benefit 333 former detainees from the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Kenitra, Fez, Khemisset, Tangier, Salé, Safi Beni Mellal Ait Melloul-Agadir, Taroudant, Tiznit and Inzegane.
The program aims to provide financial and logistical support to former inmates having project ideas, developed on the basis of a diagnosis during their detention period with the assistance of the reintegration preparation service, in line with the training and the know-how of beneficiaries, as well as the labor market needs.
This program is part of the integrated employment reintegration strategy that allowed in 2015 for integrating 1,719 former detainees in corporate citizens, supporting the creation of 1,670 micro-projects in various sectors and reducing the recidivism rate which stood at 3.44 pc.
To improve the future and quality of life of people who have been in conflict with the law, the sovereign chaired the signing ceremony of three agreements on the integration of prisoners in the job market.
The first agreement provides for developing the training offer for inmates in the automotive sector and the reintegration of beneficiaries in the companies affiliated to the Moroccan Association for Automotive Industry and Commerce (French acronym AMICA).
The second agreement concerns the rehabilitation by the Renault group of 50 former detainees who benefited from the employment reintegration program set up by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Detainees.
The third agreement concerns the rehabilitation by the Peugeot-Citroën (PSA) of 50 former inmates.
King Mohammed VI handed checks for financial support and various devices to former inmates having income-generating projects in the Greater Casablanca region.
The King also handed diplomas to the detainees who have passed their baccalaureate exams, as well as the prisoners who have finished their vocational training and higher education.
