Rabat – Hakima Elhaité, the Minister of the Environment, stated Tuesday that the government was not involved in the importation of the 2,500 tons of trash from Italy. According to her, the controversial trash has not yet been incinerated.
“The Moroccan government has not decided to import these industrial alternatives and did not draw profit,” Elhaité said. “This import has been the subject of a contract between a factory in Morocco with another factory in Italy.” The minister also confirmed that the exchange between the two factories respected the laws of both Morocco and Italy.
The PJD hopes to commission an inquiry into the trash importation. The deputy of USFP, Mehdi Mezouari, says that the government “must assume responsibility and regulate this affair as soon as possible.”
