Rabat – A truck drove into the crowd that was on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice where people turned up for the fireworks on July 14, killing at least 73 people, the Alpes Maritimes prefecture said according to French media.
Local authorities called on the city’s inhabitants to stay home and hinted at possibility that the incident was terrorist attack.
“People are running, it’s panic. A large truck went up the Promenade and drove into everyone, “a French journalist was quoted by French Newspaper Le Figaro as saying.
“There are people in blood, probably full of wounded,” a reporter for the Nice Matin newspaper said.
According to Reuters, France`s president, Francois Holland, convened an emergency meeting at an Interior Ministry crisis center, immediately after the attack.
The Interior Ministry says on Twitter that there is no ongoing hostage taking in Nice.

Pierre-Henry Brandet, spokesman of the French Ministry of Interior said that the man who drove the truck was neutralized, adding that “the investigation will determine if he acted alone.”
