Rabat – After a lorry ploughed into a crowd of revelers celebrating Bastille Day in Nice on Thursday night, the Guardian reported that many Muslims were among the victims of the presumed terrorist attack.
Iranian journalist Maryam Violette spoke with the outlet as the gravity of the attack become clear. “There were so many Muslim people who were victims because I could see they had scarves over their head and some were speaking Arabic,” she recounted. “One family lost a mother, and in Arabic they were saying she’s a martyr.”
At least three Moroccans were killed.
This attack follows a spate of violence across the Arab world this summer. Although the West often focuses on violence in Europe and the United States, the Islamic State and the terrorism it inspires have killed far more Muslims than non-Muslims .
This attack in Nice, a popular tourist destination for Arabs , continues the Islamic State’s pattern of Muslim-on-Muslim violence.
