Rabat – The African Development Bank (AfDB) will spare no effort to support Morocco’s organization of the 22nd Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), President of the AfDB Group, Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, said Wednesday in Rabat.
“Morocco is important for Africa and the African Development Bank (AfDB) will spare no effort to support the Kingdom in order to successfully organize COP22, held on the African soil”, Adesina stressed following a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar.
Adesina, who is paying his first official visit to Morocco on July 19-23, noted that the African Pavilion was among the finest in COP 21 in Paris, expressing hope that this experience will be repeated in COP22.
For his part, Mezouar welcomed the decision of the Bank to triple its climate finance in Africa, expressing the commitment of the Moroccan presidency of COP 22 to make all efforts to take into account the interests of Africa and small island States, particularly regarding the financing of actions and projects on adaptation to climate change.
Mezouar also congratulated the AfDB President for his commitment and ambitious vision of the development of the continent, reiterating the disposal of the Kingdom to work with his institution to achieve the objectives of the Bank, in particular regarding the “New deal” for energy in Africa, which aims to ensure access for all to energy services in Africa by 2025.
